Introduction
The Texas Baptist Offering for World Hunger funds specific hunger relief and development ministries in the United States and around the world and is supported by donations from churches and individuals. Funding proposals for hunger ministries are submitted annually by Baptist entities (e.g., churches, missions personnel) through trusted Baptist partners, including the Baptist World Alliance, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, national Baptist unions, Texas Baptists (BGCT) missions and ministry agencies, other state conventions, and Texas Baptist associations. Ministries funded each year are listed and described in Hunger Offering print and web publications so that donors can know exactly which ministries their gifts are supporting.
Hunger Offering funds exclusively support ministries which directly alleviate immediate needs (relief) and/or help people move out of poverty (development). Hunger Offering funds, for example, can be used to purchase food and food storage equipment, to prepare meals and purchase food preparation equipment, to produce food and support agricultural and animal husbandry development, to provide clean water and sanitation, to support micro-enterprise and income development, and to help prepare people for employment. Hunger Offering funds are not used for salary support. Approximately 25 percent of the Hunger Offering ministry budget is distributed in Texas, 15 percent in the United States outside of Texas, and 60 percent internationally.
Ninety-two percent of the income to the Offering directly supports hunger relief and development ministries. Eight percent is used for education and promotion.
