CLC welcomes David Sanchez as new Ethics and Justice Director

The Christian Life Commission (CLC) is pleased to announce that David Earl Sanchez has joined the team as the new Ethics and Justice Director.

“I am so thankful that Dr. David Sanchez agreed to join our team. He has a heart for ministry to leaders, families and especially to those in need. His church, teaching, writing, and academic experiences position him to make lasting contributions to Texas Baptists,” Gus Reyes, director of the CLC, said.

In his new role, Sanchez will seek to help Texas Baptists grapple with contemporary issues from a biblical perspective. This involves seeking to understand both the current cultural situation and biblical principles that may apply. He will travel to churches to speak on these issues, as well as writing helpful information to be shared with all Texas Baptists.

“I am excited about the chance to use my writing and speaking to assist our church leaders in equipping their congregations to walk in a way worthy of the Gospel during these changing and challenging times,” Sanchez said. “I am looking forward to connecting with pastors and leaders, building friendships and partnerships, and hearing from them about what they think our greatest needs are."

Sanchez has over 20 years of ministry experience. He has served most recently as the Youth Pastor and English Minister at Chinese Baptist Church of Fort Worth. He was also the Music and Youth Minister at Brownwood Bible Fellowship. 

In addition to his roles in ministry, Sanchez has served as an adjunct professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (SWBTS) and L.R. Scarborough College, the SWBTS Liberal Arts college. Sanchez has taught courses pertaining to Biblical Greek, New Testament studies, advanced composition and Theological vocabulary.  During his time at SWBTS, he also served as an ESL instructor and a Biblical language tutor.

Sanchez received his bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne University in ESL instruction. He earned a Master’s of Art in Theology in Biblical Studies with a Missions minor from SWBTS. Sanchez’s Master’s thesis was entitled: "Paul's Instructions to the Corinthians Concerning Idol Meat: Principles for Decision Making in Grey Areas." He has also received a doctorate in New Testament Studies from SWBTS.

Sanchez has a wife, Amanda, and a 6-year-old daughter, Naomi. He speaks beginner and intermediate-level Chinese and Spanish, respectively.
