Finding hope on the side of the road

Baby Benjamin was abandoned on the side of the road wearing nothing but a small white blanket and bearing a note saying that anyone who wanted him, could have him.

“He was found by the villagers who passed by the road and informed the local authority,” said Rosy Lyn Htut, caseworker for Love for Myanmar. “They took the baby to one of our children’s homes called Kid’s Life.

“The home caregiver once showed me the baby photo when they first found him. He was so skinny, having sores on his whole body. He was about to die, and he couldn't even cry because not enough strength.”

Htut added that another baby shared a similar story: Mary Van, a child a few years younger, was also found on the side of the road under similar conditions.

“Now they both are growing very well,” said Htut.”They are in grades 10 and 8. They grow very tall and Benjamin, now 17, is really smart in study.”

She said that most of the children are growing strong thanks to the vitamins and meals that they receive, which also helps them succeed in their studies.

“When I first [started] working with Love for Myanmar they did not look healthy...But after, they have more funds for food and for their school, they start growing well and more healthy.”

Gary Watkins, co-founder of Love for Myanmar, noted the funds received from the Texas Baptist Hunger Offering primarily support the food prepared in the children’s homes. The 28 children at Kid’s Life children’s home are some of those recipients.

On July 30, Texas Baptists are invited to donate to the 5th Sunday Hunger Offering to help provide meals for orphans like Benjamin and Mary Van. Visit hungeroffering.org for more information or to make a donation today.

Texas Baptists is a movement of God’s people to share Christ and show love by strengthening churches and ministers, engaging culture and connecting the nations to Jesus.

The ministry of the convention is made possible by giving through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program, Mary Hill Davis Offering® for Texas Missions, Texas Baptists Worldwide and Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. Thank you for your faithful and generous support.
