For Immediate Release

GRAND PRAIRIE–The Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission will host a one-day conference on racial reconciliation Aug. 26. The event, “One: Unity not Uniformity,” will be at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Tasha Morrison, founder of “Be the Bridge,” a ministry to equip and provide tools for those who are actively involved in taking the next steps toward racial unity. One: Unity not Uniformity is designed to equip church leaders and lay members to engage in the work of racial reconciliation in their communities.

“Christian leaders need to come together and determine productive, Christ-honoring ways to address racial tensions in the United States. Toward this end we are hosting this one-day event to encourage churches and Christians to address issues related to race and immigration. The status quo is just not acceptable for people who were taught by Jesus to love our neighbors as ourselves,” said Kathryn Freeman, CLC director of public policy.

Attendees will gain insight into racial reconciliation as a gospel issue, learn the importance of forming and maintaining cross-racial relationships and get practical tips for engaging in the work of racial reconciliation.

Additional workshops will include “Serving the Stranger Among Us,” led by Patty Lane, director of Intercultural Ministries for Texas Baptists; and “Same Kind of Different: Building Cross Racial Friendships,” led by Ryan Jespersen, Texas Baptists’ director of Urban Missions.

Texas Baptists is a movement of God’s people to share Christ and show love by strengthening churches and ministers, engaging culture and connecting the nations to Jesus.

The ministry of the convention is made possible by giving through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program, Mary Hill Davis Offering® for Texas Missions, Texas Baptists Worldwide and Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. Thank you for your faithful and generous support.
