Dr. Steve Mullen joined the Texas Baptists staff this summer as the new Director of Theological Education. In his role with Texas Baptists, Mullen will plan and coordinate the work of the Theological Education Council; oversee the ministerial financial assistance program; and build bridges among churches, educational institutions and the convention, among other responsibilities.

“Steve brings a wealth of knowledge and practical experience to the theological education of ministers across Texas,” said Associate Executive Director Steve Vernon. “He has a heart for ministry and ministers, and will strengthen ministry preparation among our schools for years to come. We are fortunate to have him on our staff.”

Mullen is a native of Arkansas, and a product of Arkansas Baptists. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University with his Bachelor of Arts, followed by both his Master of Arts in Religious Education and Doctor of Philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

After his time at Southwestern, Mullen served as Professor of Christian Education at Williams Baptist College for three years before beginning his 21 year career at Dallas Baptist University. For 18 of those years at DBU, he served as Dean of the Mary C. Crowley College of Christian Faith.

“My prayer and vision for this role is to utilize the various certificate programs available in our education institutions to provide a certificate for all Texas Baptists ministers, and to develop continuing education opportunities for staff members of Texas Baptists churches,” said Mullen.

He continued, “I also plan to encourage our Texas Baptists students to consider God's call to vocational Christian service in their lives.”
