TBM Disaster Relief Provides Aid After Historic Winter Storm
Disaster Relief teams sprung into action after a historic winter storm plunged all of Texas into temperatures below freezing, pushing the state’s electrical grid to the brink and breaking water pipes statewide.
“This is truly a statewide emergency in every sense of the word,” said TBM Disaster Relief Director David Wells during the storm. “Every city, every region of Texas is being affected. We are seeking to provide help, hope and healing as quickly as possible.”
On Feb. 19, TBM deployed a shower unit to a Cedar Hill apartment complex that houses 700 people who were struggling without water. The unit allowed residents to take hot showers and get their laundry done by volunteers. The city of Cedar Hill also requested a large TBM generator in another location to serve its citizens.
TBM provided shower/laundry units on standby to serve in Allen and Corpus Christi and distributed feeding and food recovery items. It also sent bottled water to East Texas Baptist University, Sharing Life Ministries in Mesquite and churches in the Houston area to help people without access to drinking water.
“People are hurting,” Wells said. “They are tired. They’re overwhelmed by the situation. We are mobilizing volunteers to meet their needs, help them and lift their spirits.”

"Esta es verdaderamente una emergencia estatal en cada sentido de la palabra", dijo el Director de ayuda en desastres de los Hombres Bautistas de Texas, David Wells, durante la tormenta. El 19 de febrero, los Hombres Bautistas de Texas movilizaron una unidad de duchas al complejo de apartamentos Cedar Hill donde 700 personas carecían de agua. La unidad permitió que los residentes tomaran duchas calientes y voluntarios lavaran la ropa. La ciudad de Cedar Hill solicitó un generador de los Hombres Bautistas de Texas para servir a sus ciudadanos en otra localización.
Los Hombres Bautistas de Texas proveyeron unidades de duchas/lavado de ropa para servir en Allen y Corpus Christi, y distribuyeron artículos para alimentar y comestibles. También envió agua embotellada a la Universidad Bautista del Este de Texas, Ministerios Compartir Vida en Mesquite, e iglesias en el área de Houston para ayudar a personas sin acceso a agua potable.
"Las personas están sufriendo", dijo Wells. "Están cansados. Están abrumados por la situación. Movilizamos a nuestros voluntarios para satisfacer sus necesidades, ayudarlos, y levantar sus espíritus".
