Strickland-Davis Scholarship

The purpose of the Strickland-Davis Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to three BGCT students pursuing a degree in a field of study related to the commands of Micah 6:8: Do Justice, Love Kindness, Walk Humbly. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded each school year and are available to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral level students.

Applications must be submitted no later than Saturday, July 1, 2023.
Recipients will be notified by Tuesday, August 1, 2023.

General Guidelines

  • Each applicant must be a member of a BGCT church actively giving to the BGCT Cooperative Program and participate in giving to the Texas Baptist Hunger Offering.
  • Recipients will receive a total of $1,000 per academic year. Funds will be sent to schools by early fall of each school year.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered for funding. Late applications will not be
    accepted.
  • Application must be submitted including the required essay.

Application Process

Beginning 2021, applicants must have:

  1. Pastor recommendation from current church membership (does not need to be senior/lead pastor). IF possible, this letter should be submitted on church stationery and must contain the church’s name and physical address as well as current contact information for the pastor. The letter should be written to affirm the membership and participation of the application in the church, including the length of time the applicant has been a member of the church. PDF Electronic Submissions are acceptable.
  2. The most recent high school/college/university transcript and college acceptance verification and meet other scholarship requirements.
  3. Applications must include an essay addressing how the applicant will utilize a degree in their field of study to apply the mission and charge of Micah 6:8. Essay must not exceed 1500 words. Essays will be evaluated anonymously according to the following criteria:
    1. Content: How clearly does the applicant relate his/her field of study to the mission
      and charge of Micah 6:8? (50%)
    2. Clarity: Is the essay clear to read and without major grammatical and spelling
      errors? (20%)
    3. Composition: The essay should demonstrate a firm grasp of Micah 6:8 and Christian conviction to apply the principles of justice, kindness, and walking humbly to the Christian life. (30%)
  4. The application must be received by July 1 each year.
  5. All new (first-time) applicants must have a 3.0 GPA. Renewal applicants must
    maintain a 3.0 GPA.
  6. Applications may be submitted online.
