The Texas Baptists Center for Church Health selected Jonathan Smith as its new associate director. Smith accepted this position alongside his current position as the director of Church Health and Growth. He assumed the position on May 1.
Smith said he is excited about being an encouragement to the Center for Church Health staff, “empowering them, praying with them, cheering them on [and] pastoring them.”
During his time at Texas Baptists, Smith has served as the director of Church Health and Growth. In his four and a half years in this role, he has helped churches become healthier and grow, and be obedient to the Great Commission. Three years ago, he created PAVE alongside “an army of other people” and since then, over 200 churches have been a part of PAVE.
Taking on this additional role, Smith said he is “honored and humbled” to be “working alongside Phil Miller to bring leadership to the whole church and to the whole center.”
“The leadership of Phil Miller is stellar. Phil Miller is a legend here at Texas Baptists because of his high integrity and because of his wisdom,” said Smith. “I’m looking forward to just working even more closely with Phil Miller and learning from him.”
Smith earned a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Christianity from Houston Baptist University, now Houston Christian University, and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He earned his Doctor of Ministry in Church Health, Growth and Revitalization.
“I’m excited that Jonathan Smith has moved into the role of associate director of the Center for Church Health. Having joined our Texas Baptists team in early 2021, he is in his 5th year of leading out in the area of Church Health and Growth. His academic preparation, his personal pastoral experience in church revitalization and his ability to study and synthesize information for the greatest good of local churches, makes him a great fit for this unique ministry in Texas Baptist life,” said Phil Miller, director for the Center for Church Health at Texas Baptists.
The Texas Baptists Center for Church Health exists primarily to serve the needs of our churches; to help the local church be healthy so that God’s people may succeed in His mission of connecting the world to Jesus.
