GC2 Strong Pilot Brings Together Churches Across Texas for a Shared Journey of Faithfulness

by Sergio A. Ramos on Oct. 1, 2026 in GC2 Strong

Texas Baptists’ GC2 Strong initiative has taken an exciting step forward. As shared at the recent Executive Board meeting, 20 churches representing all nine Texas Baptists geographic areas are participating in a pilot program designed to help churches grow in their faithfulness to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission.

The participating churches reflect the beautiful diversity of Texas Baptists: seven Anglo churches, six Hispanic churches, four African American churches, one cowboy church, one Asian church, and one African church. Together, they bring perspectives from different cultures, communities, languages, and ministry contexts that will help shape the initiative for broader implementation.

Launched September 15, the pilot program will continue through December 2026. Eighteen Navigators have been selected to guide participating churches through the GC2 Discovery Process. These trained ministry leaders walk alongside pastors and church leaders, listening, praying, asking thoughtful questions, and helping each church discern its next steps.

At its heart, GC2 Strong is a spiritual journey, not just a strategic intervention. The purpose is to help churches seek God’s direction and join Him in His mission through three connected steps:

  • Learn and Pray: Churches begin with prayer and learning, grounding the journey in Scripture and seeking God’s direction together.
  • Assess and Reflect: Congregations complete an assessment and reflect on their strengths and opportunities for growth in six areas: Love God, Love Neighbor, Make Disciples, Church Strong, Minister Strong, and Mission Strong.
  • Pathway Pursuit: With their Navigator's support, church leaders develop a customized and contextualized pathway, identify practical next steps, and begin putting those steps into action.

Through five guided sessions, Navigators help churches interpret what they are learning, explore ministry priorities, and move toward meaningful action. Each pathway reflects the church's context and the direction its own leaders discern to pursue through prayer and reflection.

The pilot program is also an intentional learning process. Participating churches and Navigators are helping shape GC2 Strong by moving through the discovery process, evaluating steps along the way, and sharing what works, what needs improvement, and what resources would better support their ministry. Their feedback will help refine the assessment, sessions, resources, and Navigator guidance ahead of broader implementation in 2027.

The desired outcome is a tested, refined, and reproducible process that helps churches become stronger, ministers healthier, and mission efforts more focused and effective. Above all, the aim is increased faithfulness to the Great Commandment and Great Commission–loving God, loving neighbors, and making disciples in Texas and beyond.

Please join us in praying for the pastors, leaders, churches, and Navigators participating in this pilot program. Pray for wisdom as they listen, unity as they discern, and courage as they take their next steps. As this journey unfolds, we look forward with hope to what God will teach us and how He will work through His churches.

Gratefully Serving Him,
