Weekly Update
May 20, 2026
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’” (Isaiah 6:8 NIV)
This week has started out with much excitement for me. On Sunday, I had the privilege of preaching at Trinity Baptist Church in Sweetwater, where Dr. J.T. Thornton is the lead pastor. This is a vibrant church living out the Great Commandment and Great Commission.
Pastor Thornton, who also serves on the BGCT executive board, is providing great shepherd leadership there. He requested that Ward Hayes and I share about GC2 Strong with the congregation during Sunday School and through the preaching.
On Monday and Tuesday, we held our BGCT executive board meeting on the campus of Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. We are thankful for Dr. Donna Hedgepath and her excellent staff for the awesome West Texas/Panhandle hospitality.
Based on Isaiah’s vision in Isaiah 6:1-13, I delivered my executive director report to the executive board on Monday night. I gave an update on the GC2 Strong strategy, announced a staff realignment to be implemented this summer and spoke about the BGCT’s relationship with Baylor University.
On Tuesday, the board heard multiple reports from various Texas Baptists ministries and acted on some business. You can read a recap of the executive board meeting here.
At the conclusion of the executive board meeting, we hosted a lunch for Lubbock, Plainview and Amarillo area pastors. We shared with them what God is doing through Texas Baptists, giving them an update on the GC2 Strong process, and enjoyed some great fellowship.
It is good to be united as churches and as the executive board around the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. It is good to have a vision of our Lord on his throne, high and exalted, calling us to join him in his mission. It is good to be people who have said to Him, “Here we are, send us!”
God is on the move. Thank you for joining us as we pursue Him and His mission.
