DALLAS – July 22, 2026, 4:40 PM – Torrential rainfall in South Texas and the Hill Country has caused widespread flooding, which began Wednesday, July 15, and continued on Thursday, July 16.
On Monday, Texans on Mission (TXM), the disaster recovery arm of Texas Baptists, deployed all of its volunteer disaster response teams, including flood recovery, assessors, chaplains, shower/laundry, feeding, asset protection, box ministry, electrical, electronic support and an incident management team, who began serving impacted areas upon arrival.
TXM also rolled out more equipment and put up sites in Boerne, Kerrville and Uvalde. Flood recovery teams have begun mud out efforts and removing damaged items in homes in Comfort and other Hill Country communities to prepare for rebuilding.
John Hall, chief mission officer at Texans on Mission, said TXM teams have volunteers serving at their sites in Uvalde, Kerrville, Boerne, Comfort, Center Pointe, Hunt and Ingram. He said it is a blessing for TXM to be the hands and feet of Jesus in these communities.
“This ministry is made possible by the incredible generosity of Christians who want to help,” Hall said. “We are thankful for those who come alongside Texans on Mission teams as they meet needs and share the gospel.”
Texas Baptists churches are partnering in relief efforts in the area, such as Baptist Temple Church in Uvalde and First Baptist Church Boerne.
Joe Aguilar, former area representative and new GC2 navigator for Texas Baptists, said South Texas churches are stepping up to serve their communities by preparing meals, opening up their facilities and gathering teams to volunteer with flood relief efforts.
“I’m thankful for the heart of our churches in South Texas and their willingness to be available [and] their willingness to be ready to open up their doors to help out in any way, shape or form,” Aguilar said.
Hall said TXM teams are meeting immediate needs and are looking for ways to serve long-term.
He asked for prayer for Hill Country residents who have been impacted for a second time by flooding, for people to feel the presence of God throughout the recovery journey and for the volunteers who continue to serve in the current heat wave.
Please join us in praying for those in the Hill Country and South Texas affected by the flooding, and the volunteers who are meeting needs.
