This Summer, the FIFA World Cup is coming to Texas— which means so is the mission field! Over 6 million people are expected to visit Texas over five weeks to watch the games. In an effort to equip and mobilize you and your congregation to share the gospel, the Texas Baptists Evangelism team has put together three evangelism strategies for you to implement this summer.
A TellGate, or “Grill Walk” is a door-to-door evangelism strategy where a team can purchase a grill to walk through a neighborhood and grill hot dogs for the community. As the team moves down the street, they can stop at each house to offer free hot dogs, share the gospel, pray with residents and invite them to church. This is a great way to get to know your community while also having gospel conversations.
The E-Ball Soccer strategy uses soccer concepts to illustrate biblical truths. This strategy is used during Soccer & Spirit Camps, where children spend four days learning basic soccer skills and hearing the gospel shared through daily bible lessons. Camp participants play with an “E-Ball” (evangelism soccer ball), a multi-colored soccer ball that explains and helps participants understand the gospel. You can download a PDF of the curriculum here. This is a great way to connect with families and engage their children with the gospel.
The Yellow Card Initiative equips teams to confidently and effectively share the gospel by using the yellow card for personal, digital, church and street evangelism during the FIFA World Cup. The yellow card is a card game referees use to warn players when they break the rules. This strategy utilizes FIFA World Cup-themed yellow and red cards to illustrate sin and how it can cause us eternal separation from God if we don’t repent and give our lives to him. Each card is printed with a QR code to the Yellow Card Initiative website. You can sign up to receive yellow and red cards to distribute here. This is a great way to personally connect with soccer fans in your community or who are visiting to watch the games.
The harvest is plentiful! As the nations come to Texas, let’s be prepared to share the gospel. Learn more about how your church can get involved and sign up to join outreach activities happening during the FIFA World Cup games at txb.org/events/sharing-christ-at-the-cup.
