Midwestern State University BSM

Christian worship and praise. Happy friends reading the bible together.

Texas Baptists churches are at work strengthening churches to fulfill the Great Commandment and Great Commission every day in Texas and beyond. I wanted to share a story with you about how your church’s gifts to the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program made an impact.

Midwestern State University (MSU) BSM saw over 50 students come to Christ during the Spring 2026 semester. A focus on evangelism training and gospel appointments helped the BSM see salvation growth, shared MSU BSM Director Keith Beanland.

The BSM began hosting evangelism training sessions twice a week to help student members learn how to better share their faith. The training covered topics like beliefs of other religions, gospel-sharing tools, apologetics and more.

Following the evangelism training, BSM students went out on campus in pairs to make connections with students and share the gospel together. Gospel appointments were made for students interested in learning more about Jesus.

A former BSM student and new staff member, Natasha, saw a chain reaction of salvations happen through evangelism training. It began when she met a student named Sarah*.

“I was just walking around campus meeting students and trying to build connections, and I ended up meeting a good majority of the volleyball team. I asked one girl, Sarah, if she wanted to go get coffee. We started talking about spiritual things, and she shared her testimony—she was already a believer. So I asked her if she was interested in discipleship and growing her faith, and she said yes. We began meeting each week … just going through discipleship, reading our Bibles and talking about how to share our faith,” said Natasha.

Toward the end of the semester, Sarah introduced Natasha to another girl on the volleyball team, which led to a gospel conversation and her accepting Christ. She joined Sarah and Natasha to begin discipleship too.

It could have stopped there, but Sarah and her teammate were excited about continuing to share the gospel. The pair shared their faith with yet another teammate, and this girl also gave her life to Christ through a follow-up gospel appointment with Natasha. The group of four continued discipleship meetings through the end of the semester.

“I accepted Christ my freshman year at college through BSM,” Natasha said. “Our generation is searching for truth … for a lot of students, they may not be comfortable finding a church to step into. So for us to have the BSM on campus, it bridges that gap for students who might be hesitant to go to a church on their own. BSM meets students where they are and shares the gospel with them. Then they feel comfortable going to the local church and getting involved.

This kind of impact only happens through local churches making a difference right where they are. Thank you for your generous gifts through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program. Because of your gifts, we are able to strengthen churches to fulfill your calling to love God, love others and make disciples.
