Texas Baptists churches are at work strengthening churches to fulfill the Great Commandment and Great Commission every day in Texas and beyond. I wanted to share a story with you about a person who was recently impacted by your church’s gifts to the Cooperative Program.

When Damon Sullivan and his wife, Katracy, moved to New Braunfels to plant a church in 2019, they didn’t know anyone or anything about the area. They only knew God had called them to minister there.

Today, Sullivan is multiplying his ministry by not only serving as pastor of the growing Impact Family Church, but also by being a recognized mentor to young men at Canyon High School. In fact, the Comal Independent School District recently presented Sullivan with the 590-Mile Award for his positive influence on at-risk students and commitment to them.

Besides his pastoral role at Impact Family Church, Sullivan works full-time as a staff accountant for the district. When he saw a listing four years ago for a volunteer mentor, he stepped up.

After four years in the mentor seat, he has racked up some success stories. His most recent mentee, Kaiden, lost his mother and moved in with his grandmother, then came to New Braunfels to live with his father. When they had a falling out, Kaiden saved his money and bought a car and lived in it for a few months.

Sullivan connected with Kaiden through his school counselors and wanted to find him a place to live. One of the young ladies attending Impact Family Church worked for Texas State University and got Kaiden into student housing for the summer before he leaves for college in August.

Kaiden recently graduated from Canyon High School with a 3.8 GPA and was accepted to San Francisco State University with a full scholarship.

Sullivan said the most important win is that seven of the eight young men he has mentored have given their lives to Christ through the mentorship process.

Sullivan has recruited two men from Impact Family Church to help mentor young men in the community.

This kind of impact only happens through local churches making a difference right where they are. Thank you for your generous gifts through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program. Because of your gifts, we are able to strengthen churches to fulfill your calling to love God, love others and make disciples.
