MAP Stories: Meetings that change lives

Have you ever heard about King Ambassadors or Messengers of the King? These two amazing programs, provided by the Brazilian Women and Men associations, work within kids and teenagers, normally from the ages of 9 to 17. Both of these programs help the kids to develop as leaders and servers, physically and emotionally.

King Ambassadors started in Brazil in 1948 with North American missionary Willian Alvin Hatton. He was sent to work in South America, and he believed that Brazil was a place were new missionaries would be born. For 71 years, King Ambassadors has fulfilled its role in forming new leaders.

Like the Ambassadors, Messengers of the King started with a North American missionary, Minnie Low Lanier, in 1949. Its goal is to enable girls to grow in mission knowledge, pray for missions, contribute to missions and assume their responsibility to witness for Jesus Christ.

Our missionary Tomás Corrêa shared a bit of the importance of this work in his field, “In the riverside communities of Amazonas, [King Ambassadors and Messengers of the King] have been used in the planting of new churches and in the formation of leadership. A while ago, there was only one congregation with these functions; today we have 14 churches working with teenagers on the mission. The Royal Connection was of the utmost importance in strengthening churches and participants, all after a dream: reaching the nations for Christ.”

The Royal Connection was a special event where King Ambassadors and Messengers of the King gather for a wonderful time of learning, growing and praying. It took place last month and was proof of the fruits of these two ministries’ work. It was a weekend where missionary and pastor Natalino Filho talked with them about “Clean and pure for serving my King.”

These programs are amazing not only because our missionaries are able to reach out to people while they are young, but they are also able to have the kids talk with their parents and have the whole family come to Christ!

Please join us in prayer so that both King Ambassadors and Messengers of the King can continue making a difference in those kids’ lives, that they can grow as men and women of God using their talents for His glory and that their families also can come to know our one true King.

Tomás Corrêa is part of the Texas Baptists Missionary Adoption Program (MAP). MAP partners churches in the U.S. with churches in the host city or country to jointly sponsor a missionary. Contact Gloria Tillman, MAP Ministry Assistant, at gloria.tillman@texasbaptists.org for more information on how your church can adopt a MAP missionary or visit txb.org/map today.

Texas Baptists is a movement of God’s people to share Christ and show love by strengthening churches and ministers, engaging culture and connecting the nations to Jesus.

The ministry of the convention is made possible by giving through the Texas Baptists Cooperative Program, Mary Hill Davis Offering® for Texas Missions, Texas Baptists Worldwide and Texas Baptist Missions Foundation. Thank you for your faithful and generous support.
