Texas Baptists shares digital prayer guide to pray toward Pentecost

Looking toward Pentecost, Texas Baptists published a free digital prayer guide focusing on “Praying for a GC2 Awakening” for the seven weeks between Easter Sunday, April 5, and Pentecost Sunday, May 24.

“How appropriate that between the celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit to the church, the same period of days which the early church spent praying in the upper room, we would pray for a spiritual awakening and for power to make disciples of all nations,” wrote Texas Baptists Executive Director Julio Guarneri in his most recent Weekly Update

Each week of the prayer guide has a theme such as lostness, Great Commandment and Great Commission obedience and the three areas of the GC2 Strong Initiative: strengthening churches, ministers and missions. Each week also has ministry focuses such as Evangelism, Hunger & Care Ministry, the Missionary Adoption Program, Pave, Pastor Strong, Go Now and Discipleship.

Also in his most recent newsletter, Guarneri encouraged Texas Baptists to use the guide “for your personal daily prayer time,” but also “in your church, class, group and at home to pray for a Great Commandment and Great Commission awakening.”

“Jesus prayed fervently before his crucifixion. The early church prayed expectantly between the resurrection and Pentecost. Let’s join our hearts and spirits in prayer in our day as Texas Baptists and with Baptists around the world for a Great Commandment, Great Commission awakening among our churches in Texas, in North America and around the world,” wrote Guarneri.

The “Praying for a GC2 Awakening" prayer guide is now available.

Strengthening a multiplying movement of churches to live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission in Texas and beyond.
