Living out the Great Commandment and Great Commission in Texas and beyond
A message from the GC2 director
Hello Friends,
The Texas Baptists family has talked about the two “GCs”—the Great Commandment and the Great Commission—for more than ten years. Over that time, the acronym “GC2” has meant many things to many people.
Today, we are working to reimagine “GC2”, and we are excited about where the Lord is leading us.
We believe that thriving churches live out the Great Commandment and Great Commission and that faithfulness to the two “GCs” should be our principal aim.

Just last week, I provided an exciting update to our Texas Baptists Executive Board during its May meeting. Here are some highlights:
- We have completed a version of our GC2 Assessment that churches are invited to use to carefully and prayerfully consider their current GC2 practice
- Spanish and English language versions are now in a “user test”
- We have hand-selected about 20 seasoned ministry leaders to be trained to guide churches through this process of considering and strengthening their GC2 practice
- These “Navigators” will attend a 2-day training at the Texas Baptists offices in July
- Some of these Navigators will then work with churches through our GC2 Strong Pilot Program beginning in September
- My hope is to have a representative sampling of around 24 churches move through this 3-4 month program as we continue to test and make needed adjustments
- Then, by the start of the new year, we hope to invite all Texas Baptists churches to move through this process
- Also, several churches have just joined us in a 50-day, Easter to Pentecost prayer effort in which we prayed for a GC2 Awakening among Texas Baptists churches, ministers, and missions efforts
- Finally, our publishing ministry, GC2 Press, has just launched GC2 Strong: A Great Commandment & Great Commission Awakening, a 13-week lesson with weekly video supplements, that you and your church can use to strengthen your GC2 practice
