Texas Baptists welcomes Oza Jones as Evangelism Associate for African American Ministries

Oza Jones has joined the Texas Baptists Great Commission Team as the new Evangelism Associate for African American Ministries & Church Revitalization as of Monday, July 23.

“Oza impressed me from the first day we met by his ability to connect with others,” said Evangelism Lead Leighton Flowers. “He knows how to encourage churches in revitalization through community involvement and getting outside the four walls of the church. Texas Baptists churches need to get to know Oza Jones because I know they will be challenged by his commitment to reaching the lost.”

Jones received his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Bible Institute in Dallas in Biblical Studies and ministry training from Criswell College. Soon after, he served as the pastor of Grace Tabernacle of Praise Church in Grand Prairie for six years.

Jones has also served on multiple community executive boards, including the YMCA of Greater Dallas, Brighter Tomorrows Domestic Violence Organization and the Grand Prairie Pregnancy Center. In 2012, he founded the Police and Clergy Coalition of Grand Prairie, which has now grown to 210 evangelistic driven churches in the city.

“My passion is to help strengthen the church from being the church in the community, to being the community church," said Jones. “My prayer is that God would take my experience and passion for the Kingdom and help me to help pastors maximize impact in the communities around them.”

Through church revitalization, Jones will develop customized processes for any church experiencing a decline or plateau in results. Through evangelism training, he will help raise up and resource leaders in African American churches to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
