This month we are spotlighting Pastor David Whitehead at Connections Church in Kapolei, Hawaii! God is doing great things in Texas Baptists churches in our state and beyond!

This month, I have been conversing with our leadership team, partnering agency and ministry staff about our mission theme for the next couple of years or so.

“Baptism always represents life, new life, transformation of life. A life that was going one direction but has turned around and is now going in a different direction.”

This is staff week at the Texas Baptists offices in Dallas. Twice a year, we gather all of our staff from around the state, and we meet for three days to worship together, hear reports of what God is doing, encourage one another and plan as teams.

“So no matter how old you are, you haven’t arrived and no matter how young you are, there’s something I can learn from you,” said Curley. “I think that’s by God’s design that we can learn from one another, no matter how young or old we might be.”

All of us are affected by the new school year. Change of routine for families. Morning traffic patterns. And ministry cycles beginning again.

A 23-year-old Lamar University graduate student drowned Saturday, August 10, while attending a Lamar Baptist Student Ministry (BSM) retreat at the Toledo Bend Reservoir.

My wife and I experienced two very different kinds of events last week, but both of them had something in common. 

More than 500 students and leaders learned to “make a wave” in the culture for Jesus while attending African American Ministries’ Wave Student Conference, a four-day event for 7th graders to college students held June 9-12 at Resurrection Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX.
