Bouncers Restore Hope by Rebuilding Roofs

Bouncer’s headed out to their work sites for the first time today after a commissioning prayer led by Shawn Edwards, the Mission Coordinator. Bouncers were sent out to their roofing projects in Victoria just minutes away from Northside Baptist Church, where students are being housed this week.

The Bounce Team, Blue Soccer, will be working on Ms. Birdie Girdy’s roof this week. Birdie Girdy, age 76, has been living in her home with only a tarp to cover her damaged roof for the past ten months. Ms. Girdy is uninsured and so she is unable to afford repairs. She has lived in her home on Latia Street since 1982, and she moved in shortly after her mother’s death in 1981. Ms. Girdy’s home is immensely valuable to her which is why she was unwilling to leave during Hurricane Harvey. Instead, Ms. Girdy stayed in her home and prayed that the Lord would protect her. When asked if she was scared Ms. Birdy shook her head and pointed up, saying that she knew God in heaven was looking out for her. Ms. Birdy said that she has learned to rely on the Lord and trust him each day. While Ms. Girdy had applied for help with several organizations, she had not heard anything until Bounce Construction Leaders knocked on her door earlier this week. To Ms. Girdy, the students working on her home are an answer to prayer.

The Bounce Missions Offering was taken up this evening to support the ongoing disaster recovery effort in Harvey affected areas so that homeowners, like Ms. Girdy, can still receive help even after Bouncers return home on Saturday.

Bouncers have had a great start to the week, and the staff at Bounce is excited to see all that Christ will do in them and through them as they seek to rebuild the community of Victoria, restore hope, and go viral with the gospel.
