Texas Baptist Men Responding in Florida

DALLAS– Texas Baptist Men (TBM) volunteers are deploying Saturday morning, October 13, to respond to the devastation left by Hurricane Michael.

In this round of support, TBM will send three Chainsaw and Temporary Roofing Units, a Shower Unit, and a Feeding Unit to help those affected by the high wind and rain and feed those who are donating their time to volunteer. Also, to help coordinate the work and house some volunteers, the TBM Command Center bus is heading out with the crews as we have to be fully self-sufficient on location.

TBM will be working along the Washington and Jackson County line, just to the north and east of Panama City. This first set of volunteers will be cutting trees off of houses and installing tarps over damaged roofs.

As situations and needs become more clear in the days to come, we will send more Disaster Relief items and volunteers, including the TBM’s Mass Feeding Unit which remains on “Standby” and can prepare 50,000 meals per day.

On Friday, October 12, volunteers will prepare the Rapid Response Feeding Unit and other aspects for the departure.

On Thursday, October 11, a load of tarps set out for North Carolina. Once delivered, that trailer will be re-loaded with food preparation and serving items and delivered to where TBM will work in Florida.

In addition to efforts in North Carolina and Florida, TBM volunteers are completing Mud Out on dozens of homes that were flooded in Sonora, TX a few weeks ago.
