Spreading the Gospel through the universal language of sports, the East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) Tiger Spirit Teams, along with Acrobatics and Tumbling traveled to Japan as part of the ETBU Tiger Athletic Mission Experience program. The group of 23 athletes and staff partnered with the International Sports Federation (ISF) in evangelism and ministry surrounding Camp Buttobi and the people of Yokohama, Japan. The trip to Japan marks ETBU’s 11th sports mission experience and the third trip with ISF – an organization that seeks to change the world through sports.
During the trip, the Tiger Spirit Teams spent time with the Joy Children’s Ministry during a worship service at Hongodai Church. Student-athletes shared testimonies as well as their cheer, dance, and acrobatic talents with attendees at the church. They also facilitated a kids’ camp and participated in outreach at a local shopping mall.
“One of the greatest gifts in serving as a coach for these athletes has been watching them experience God, serve others, and realize what the Father can do through them if they are willing,” Farrah Dunaway, head coach of Cheer, and Acrobatics and Tumbling, said.
When our church gives through the Cooperative Program, we support ETBU and their missions, where both students and the people they serve are impacted by Christ. Let’s pray for ETBU’s athletes as they continue to take part in mission trips.

Los equipos Tiger Spirit junto con los de acrobacia y trampolín de la East Texas Baptist University (ETBU, por sus siglas en inglés) compartieron el Evangelio a través del lenguaje universal de los deportes en Japón como parte del programa Tiger Athletic Mission Experience de la ETBU. El grupo de 23 atletas y personal colaboró con la Federación Internacional de Deportes (ISF, por sus siglas en inglés) en evangelismo y ministerio en el campamento Buttobi y con la población de Yokihama, Japón. El viaje a Japón marca el 11º viaje deportista misionero de ETBU y el tercer viaje con ISF, una organización que busca cambiar al mundo por medio de los deportes.
Durante el viaje, los equipos Tiger Spirit pasaron tiempo con el Joy Children’s Ministry durante
un servicio de alabanza en la Iglesia Hogodai. Los estudiantes de los equipos de atletas compartieron testimonios, así como sus porras, rutinas y talentos acrobáticos con los asistentes. Además, organizaron un campamento para niños y participaron en un alance evangelístico en un centro comercial local.
“Uno de los más grandes regalos en el servicio como entrenador de estos atletas ha sido el verlos sentir la presencia de Dios, servir a otros y darse cuenta de lo que el Padre puede hacer a través de ellos si se lo permiten”, dijo Farrah Dunaway, directora de entrenadores de porras, acrobacia y trampolín.
Cuando nuestras iglesias dan al Programa Cooperativo, apoyamos a ETBU y sus misiones, en las que tanto los estudiantes como las personas a las que sirven son tocados por Cristo. Oremos para que los atletas de ETBU continúen siendo parte de estos viajes misioneros.
