Translating Bible stories and reaching the Deaf
Vest Sauter’s parents were Deaf; she learned to sign before she learned to speak English. She and her husband, Mark, have served for years with the International Mission Board in Europe and Asia. They currently lead the IMB’s efforts to reach the nearly 70 million Deaf people around the world, directing a global team of hearing and Deaf missionaries.
Vesta is working to translate 300 Bible stories into every sign language, an effort called the DeafWay Bible Project. Translating the Bible into sign language is something she has done since she was a girl, when she signed verses for her father. Motivated in part by her father’s experience of being told there were no outlets for his calling into full-time ministry, she and Mark have served in Europe and Asia since 1996.
The Sauters also worked to develop theological education for the Deaf. A partnership between the IMB, the Southern Baptist Conference for the Deaf, Union University and Brentwood Baptist Church (Brentwood, Tenn.), led to the opening of a Deaf Theological Center near Nashville.

Traducir historias bíblicas y alcanzar a los sordos
Los padres de Vest Sauter eran sordos; ella aprendió a hablar con señas antes de aprender a hablar inglés.
