DALLAS–Dowell Loftis has been named the new director of the Texas Baptists Connections Team. Loftis joined the Texas Baptists staff in February 2016 as an area representative for the Dallas area.
“Dr. Loftis is a long-time Texas Baptist who has served the Kingdom with distinction in many roles, including as a successful pastor, experienced board member and valued hospital chaplain,” said Texas Baptists Executive Director David Hardage. “Dr. Loftis is a highly capable leader who is well known and respected throughout the State of Texas and beyond.”
Previously, Loftis served as a chaplain for Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, pastor of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Bryan for eight years and Shearer Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio for 15 years. He also worked with Texas Baptists’ partner institution BCFS through Children’s Emergency Relief International (CERI).
“I believe all ministry is about relationships. God wants to have a personal relationship with us and the Connections Team wants to build relationships with pastors and churches all over the state. We care about pastors and churches and we want to connect with them and help them any way we can,” said Loftis.
Loftis earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University and a Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
While a student at A&M, Loftis served as president of the Baptist Student Union and worked as a summer missionary for Dallas Baptist Association.
The Texas Baptists Connections Team consists of Area Representatives, serving in various locations around the state; Counseling Services, helping connect ministers and their families with counseling resources; the Center for Ministry Excellence, providing financial training and assistance to pastors; and Interim Services, providing assistance to pastorless churches.
“We hope to help connect with Texas Baptists churches and help them through all of these areas,” said Loftis. “We are supposed to care for each other and build relationships with each other, so we can serve each other. We in the Connections Team want to serve our churches well.”
